CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN WATER

WANDA ORME X BOMBAY BEACH BIENNALE 2024

An immersive video and audio installation, conversations between water pairs audio from the shores of the Salton Sea with slow motion footage from other seas - placing seemingly disparate bodies of water in conversation and bringing to our awareness the connection of all waters and all bodies (bodies of water, our own bodies). 

The Salton Sea exists in public perception in an exotics of ruin, a far away place in many minds, but as part of the whole it manifests qualities of the whole beyond itself - uncomfortable truths pool and coalesce, we are all dissolved in the waters. The message it carries is a message for all. Wanda Orme has been creating work around the Salton Sea for over ten years, she has most recently been nominated for the world’s leading photography prize in sustainability, the Prix Pictet, along with the Louis Roederer Photography prize for sustainability, for her photographs of the Salton Sea.

This installation is a song to the dissolution of apparent boundaries and an attempt to bring to the fore the connections both physical and metaphysical between all water and all living bodies on our world. It is also is an act of care and attention to a place and a community at the margins.
